ART AFFAIR Cannes’10, the most innovative modern and contemporary art fair arrives on the French Riviera from the 14th to the 22nd of May 2010, in Cannes at the heart of the film festival, in one of the most prestigious palaces on the Croisette.
Indeed, the Carlton Intercontinental has the privilege to welcome the ART AFFAIR Cannes’10. The most exclusive modern and contemporary art fair on the Riviera could not dream of a better place – this exceptional and emblematic establishment, first to get the 5th star in 2009, intends to write a new page on the Rivera’s Art History.
ART AFFAIR Cannes’10 has the ambition to become THE rendezvous of modern and contemporary art amateurs and collectors. Therefore, they chose to set the tone by inviting 20 international galleries, a hundred artists from the local historical scene as well as world renowned grand masters, to exhibit their work during one of the most sought after events on Earth: the International Cannes Film Festival.
ART AFFAIR Cannes’10 is an event imagined, created and animated by two personalities that have largely contributed to find the cultural Miami scene: Jean BERNARD and Debra ARMAN. Simply a reunion of two worlds:
- Jean BERNARD, collector, gallery owner and artistic and cultural event creator
- Debra ARMAN, historical muse of Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, belongs to the Arman family.
The blend of their passions, desires and talent enables them to create a magical atmosphere through large international events such as “ART DE FETE” – an installation of 24 monumental sculptures on the Champs Elysées during winter 2008, or the sumptuous receptions during Art Basel Miami-Beach.
One of the challenges of ART AFFAIR Cannes’10 is to recreate strong bonds between different forms of artistic expressions, plastic arts, film but also design, fashion…. In brief, the 7 art forms;
Jean BERNARD explains: “since impressionism, each generation had its main artistic movement: Cubism, Surrealism, Pop Art… Since then, nothing… Not that there are no more good artists, but no more master actions that gave birth to the Nouvelle Vague in Cinema, Jazz or Disco in music for example… Each important period of artistic creation coincided with exchanges particularly creative and stimulating for the artists, and more so for the entire population. This is the sense of our presence in Cannes and the spirit that we wish to encourage.”
ART AFFAIR Cannes’10 chose the Côte d’Azur for its diversity: a melting pot of prestigious artists – such as Picasso, Renoir, Chagall, Léger to name but a few – and most surprising emerging artists, in as many fields as sculpture, painting, photography or even design and new media, at a time where all projectors are on the International Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix .
ART AFFAIR Cannes’10 will present a selection of monumental sculptures on the beaches and other chosen public places. During the month of May, ART AFFAIR Cannes’10 will greet the million and a half visitors passing through Nice Airport with astonishing installations at both terminals. The tone has been given: the French Riviera definitely rhymes with Art.
ART AFFAIR Cannes’10 is an artistic meeting place, a dynamic fair that reaches out to the general public and a link between different forms of expression.
The quality of organisation, the prestige of it being the 1st modern and contemporary art fair on the Côte d’Azur and its exhibitors are guaranteed by a rigorous selection. It is based on a pluralistic approach of the visual arts’ evolution by highlighting projects from new artistic currents that reflect contemporary talent.
The Selection Committee will be composed of international celebrities of the Art World such as Mrs Marisa DEL RE (Marisa DEL RE Gallery, New-York and Monte-Carlo), Mrs Leticia DE MASSY (Cultural Attachée, Grimaldi Forum, Monaco), Mrs Debra ARMAN (Art Expert and collector), Mr Guillaume ARAL (Gallery Jean FERRERO, Nice).
ART AFFAIR Cannes’10, the 1st modern and contemporary art fair will welcome you from the 1st to the 22nd of May 2010 in Cannes, when the home of Film Industry will be under every projector.
